The National Black United Front (NBUF) will host a Juneteenth Inter-faith Prayer vigil, honoring the victims of the Emmanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church massacre in Charleston SC, tomorrow June 19 at 7pm. The vigil will take place at the African American Civil War Memorial, directly outside the metro station. The members of NBUF are asking members of all faiths in the community to join them as they will offer prayers and condolences to the victims of the shooting, their family, their friends and the members of Emmanuel AME Church as well. Confirmed participants include Minister Khadir Muhammad (Mid-Atlantic Regional Minister of the Nation of islam) LaDonna Sanders (President of the Alexandria NAACP) and Kezia Williams (Director of Capital Cause).

“There is a long history of bombings, burnings, shootings and other acts of terrorism committed against the Black Church and we would like to bring more light to this. This is an additional reason why people of African descent in America are owed reparations.” says Salim Adofo, National Vice Chairperson of the National Black United Front. NBUF’s position is that this massacre continues to show the validity of the report “Operation Ghetto Storm: Every 28 Hours” produced by the Malcolm X Grassroots Movement. The report states that a Black person is killed every 28 hours in America by a law enforcement agency, security officer or a white vigilante.

The National Black United Front is a broad based coalition of individuals and organizations that have united to assume responsibility for improving the quality of life for Black people in America. NBUF is comprised of Black people from all social, economic, political and cultural backgrounds.
